Sasha Lauterbach, the librarian at the Cambridge Friends School in Cambridge, MA, sent me the most remarkable email. Back in 2000, her students decorated library chairs to go with their favorite books. You’re not only reading a story when you sit down in her libary; you’re sitting on one.
Hershel and the Hanukkah Goblins has been one of their favorite stories over the years. Sasha not only sent me photos of Hershel’s chair; she included pictures of the Hershel puppets. These were specially made by Swapna Sen, an artist and puppeteer who lives in Kolkota, India. They took my breath away. Maybe one day I’ll get to sit in the chair and manipulate one of the puppets in person. I know which one I’d choose first. It’s the nasty little green guy who shows up first.
