A Surprise On My Doorstep

I opened the door this morning to find a box of books on my front porch. The publisher usually sends a box of 10 or 20 books to the author and the artist when a new book or a new edition comes out. This box contained copies of my Book of Greek Myths in Portuguese and what I thought at first glance was Spanish. Then I looked closer. Some of the words didn’t look right. That’s when I realized this wasn’t a Spanish version of Greek Myths. It was Catalan!

Catalan is the language spoken in Catalonia, a region that spans the Pyrenees mountains, The Pyrenees form the border between France and Spain. I was there last year on my birding trip to France. It’s a spectacular region. I got used to seeing signs in both Catalan and French. However, I never thought I would ever see one of my own books translated into that language.
